The Divizia A 1995/96 was the 56th season of the second highest Romanian football league and the fourth of the Divizia A as only the second highest football league. Otelul Târgovişte and Jiul Petroşani rose to the Divizia Națională .

mode

The league was played in two seasons with 18 teams each. The two winners rose to the Divizia Națională, while the last two clubs of both groups were relegated to the Divizia B. There were three points for a win, one for a draw and no point for a loss. If two or more teams were tied at the end of the season, it was not the goal difference that decided , but the direct comparison .
