Efkan Ala

Efkan Ala (born February 21, 1965 in Oltu ) is a Turkish politician of the AKP and former Interior Minister of Turkey .

Life

Ala was born in Oltu in the province of Erzurum in 1965 as the eldest of 8 children of Temel Ala (father) and Gönül Ala (mother). He attended elementary school in Çanakpınar Village in Oltu County. He completed secondary school and high school at the İmam Hatip School in Erzurum. From 1983 he studied political science at the University of Istanbul , where he obtained his bachelor's degree in 1987 . He did his master’s degree in economics from Karadeniz University .

career

In 1988 he began his service in Sakarya Province as a candidate for the office of district administrator . He then worked as deputy district administrator in the counties of Gölyaka ( Bolu Province ) and Sütçuler ( Isparta Province ) before completing a one-year training course in Great Britain. He then worked as a district for two years in a circle Dernekpazarı in the province of Trabzon and in the circle Kabataş in the province of Ordu . Then Ala became deputy governor of Tunceli Province . In 1999 he took on a position in the Ministry of the Interior and between 2001 and 2003 he was employed in the Ministry of Tourism. On January 30, 2003, he became provincial governor of Batman Province . At the age of 38 he was the youngest governor of Turkey.

On September 14, 2004, he became the governor of Diyarbakır Province , where he remained until 2007. On September 8, 2007, the then Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed him his Undersecretary . After the resignation of Interior Minister Muammer Guler after corruption investigations , Erdoğan appointed Ala as the new Interior Minister in the Erdoğan III cabinet on December 25, 2013 . He also held this office in the Davutoğlu Cabinet and the Yıldırım Cabinet .

Ala resigned on August 31, 2016. A reason for his resignation was not given. Prime Minister Yildirim appointed Suleyman Soylu as the new interior minister.
