The ice hockey league is the third highest division in German ice hockey in the 2015/16 season . It is being organized by the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) for the first time since 2010 in two regional groups, North and South .

The game round of the upper leagues north and south began together on September 25, 2015 and ended for the north group on March 6, 2016 and for the south group on February 28, 2016. At the end of the season, the two leagues played a promoted team in the DEL2 out.

Oberliga Nord

Attendees

The clubs qualified for the previous groups North, East and West could apply for the Oberliga Nord. In addition, the Dutch record champions Tilburg Trappers was added to the league. The Tilburg Trappers cannot rise.

mode

A single round with eight additional games was played against geographically close teams. The main round thus consists of 42 game days. After completion of the main round, the eight best-placed teams qualified for the playoff round. The first round was played within the group in best-of-five mode, followed by an interlocking with the south.

Originally, the last 5 teams in the main round should play a relegation round with the champions of the 1st League West , Regionalliga North and Regionalliga East divided into 2 groups, whereby the winners of the two groups should qualify for the Oberliga 2017/18. In February 2016, the mode was changed - also due to the lack of interest from the teams from the regional leagues and the 1st League West:

  • The team in 14th place in the main round qualifies directly for the Oberliga Nord 2017/18.
  • The last four teams in the main round play a relegation round. The first placed in this round qualifies directly for the next season, the others come into question as successors, if, for example, B. should not give a relegated from the DEL2 or a promoted in the DEL2.

In the 2016/17 season, the north group will be reduced to 16 teams.

Elimination playoffs

Relegation round

Since the league is reduced to 16 teams in the next season, there were two relegated from the league. The last 4 teams in the main round played in the relegation round. Initially, only the winner of the relegation round is athletically qualified, as another starting place will be kept free for a possible DEL2 relegated team. However, the other participants could be considered as successors if the intended number of participants was not reached.

The Crocodiles Hamburg are thus athletically qualified for the Oberliga Nord 2016/17 . Since there is unlikely to be a relegation from the DEL2 to the Oberliga Nord, ECC Preussen Berlin will also be allowed to remain in the Oberliga as the first successor.

Oberliga Süd

Attendees

11 teams take part in the league. The EHC Freiburg rose to the DEL2. From the DEL2 came the EV Landshut , which no longer received a DEL2 license, but the Oberliga license under certain conditions. The TSV 1862 Erding waived participation in the league. The athletically relegated EV Füssen could have moved up for TSV Erding, but the club could not meet the requirements for the license until the end of July 2015 due to financial problems and finally filed for bankruptcy. The champions of the Bayernliga EV Lindau waived promotion, while the champions of the Regionalliga Süd-West , the EHC Eisbären Heilbronn , did not meet the requirements for participation. Also new to the league is EHV Schönheide, which has been regrouped from the former Oberliga Ost to the group South. The following teams have qualified for the Oberliga Süd:

mode

A double round was played. The first six teams qualified directly for the play-offs, the teams in ranks 7 to 10 played two more playoff participants in the pre-playoffs. The first round of the playoffs took place within the group, after which it was interlinked with the north. The season was over for the eleventh of the main round. The champions of the Bayernliga and the Regionalliga Süd / West play a promoted to the Oberliga Süd.
