EuroNight
The EuroNight (short name: EN , color in the German course book : blue) is a type of train for national and international night trains in Europe .
history
The first EuroNight trains were introduced in 1993 as the successor to the EuroCity Night . They run air-conditioned cars and in some cases also have a train restaurant ; Food and drinks are available from the sleeper and couchette coach attendants on all trains, and breakfast is often included in the price. During the border controls , the passengers of the sleeping and couchette cars are usually not woken up; For the purpose of border formalities, the identification documents are handed over to the sleeper or couchette supervisor on cross-border train runs.
Car equipment
EuroNight trains consist of sleeping cars , couchette cars and second class seated cars . Some pairs of trains also have first class cars , dining cars and / or baggage cars . Depending on the railway company, the wagons are managed by the companies themselves or by contracted service companies such as Newrest Wagons-Lits (formerly CIWL ), JLV, as from the Czech Republic , Wagon Slovakia Košice , as from Slovakia and Utasellátó from Hungary .
Tariff
In German domestic traffic, EN trains are charged according to the IC / EC price (product class B). In addition to the ticket, surcharges must be paid according to the comfort class (seat, couch, bed). Global prices ( DB SparNight , ÖBB SparSchiene ) are sometimes issued by individual railway companies .
Train routes and travel destinations
The EuroNight trains operating in German-speaking countries end in France , Italy , Croatia , Poland , Romania , Russia , Sweden , Serbia or Hungary , among others .
Since December 2017, the ÖBB Nightjet no longer operate under the train type EN, but are referred to as NJ. A list of these trains can be found there.

particularities
The pair of trains EN 210/211 (" Berlin-Night-Express " Malmö-Berlin), which has been in service since September 24, 2000, was operated from the start until mid-2019 under the direction of the German private EVU Georg Verkehrsorganisation (GVG) together with various Swedish partner companies. After the rail reform in 1994, this train was the first self-operated long-distance train in Germany. However, the Malmö – Berlin and Berlin – Malmö trains run the entire route without any further traffic stops; German domestic traffic is not served. Since 2003, the train has only operated in the summer season and on selected dates. After the death of the founder of GVG in May 2019, the Transdev Group took over the operation of the Berlin Night Express.
