background
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the most important young film festival for Germany , Austria and Switzerland was based on a decentralized and hybrid concept, both on site in new cinemas in Saarbrücken and the "MOP uff de Schnerr" cinemas in Saarland and in Form of a limited streaming offer via the festival website. Compared to the previous year, a streamlined range of 81 long and short films was presented, including 49 competition films in the categories feature film , documentary film , medium-length film and short film . This premiere program was shown daily in cinemas and online. At the start of the festival, the cinema was operating in compliance with the 2G Plus rule , the obligation to wear a medical mask and limited room occupancy (seat distribution in a checkerboard pattern, with one free seat each). The 32 remaining films were presented exclusively online. A streaming platform developed for the last edition of the festival was used for this.
From January 10 to 16, 2022, at the start of sales during the blue week ( blue hour until 2020 ), focal points and highlights of the film program were presented on the streaming platform. At the same time, the MOP festival radio, in cooperation with the Saarländisches Rundfunk (SR), offered a web channel with interviews and news on festival events. The industry program MOP-Connect (formerly MOP-Industry ) was intended to network filmmakers and industry representatives with digital events.
