Forbasy (German Forbs , Hungarian Poprádfalu - until 1907 Forbasz ) is a municipality in the northeastern Slovakia with 456 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Stará Ľubovňa of, part kraj Prešovský heard and traditional landscape Zips is counted .

geography

The community is located on the northern slope of the Leutschauer Berge on the right bank of the Poprad . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 539  m nm and is six and a half kilometers from Stará Ľubovňa .

Neighboring municipalities are Hniezdne in the north, east and south, Nižné Ružbachy in the west and Lacková in the north-west.

history

Forbasy was first mentioned in writing as Fyrbaz in 1311 and was then mostly inhabited by Poles, to whom some Germans came in the 13th and 14th centuries. The village was part of the territory of the Lublauer Burg and was pledged with this from 1412 and 1772 to the Kingdom of Poland. In 1553 there were 11 settlements in Forbasy, in 1569 the levy to the rulers was an eleventh of the harvest. In 1828 there were 62 houses and 451 inhabitants.

Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, Forbasy was dominated by agriculture, and the residents continued to work as bricklayers and carpenters. They also worked in factories in cities such as Stará Ľubovňa, Svit , Košice and Ostrava . In 1926, much of the town burned down.

population

According to the 2011 census, 410 inhabitants lived in Forbasy, including 401 Slovaks , four Poles , two Russians and one Czech . Two residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .

389 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and 19 residents supported the Greek Catholic Church. In the case of two residents, the denomination was not determined.
