French Rugby Union Championship 1972/73

The 1972/73 season was the 74th edition of the French Rugby Union Championship. It comprised 64 teams in the top division (today's top 14 ).

The championship was divided into two phases. It began with the group stage, in which eight teams played against each other in eight groups. The top four in each group made it to the knockout round. Sixteenth, eighth, quarter and semi-finals followed. In the final, which took place on May 20, 1973 at the Municipal Stadium in Toulouse , the two semi-final winners met and played for the Bouclier de Brennus . Here sat Stadoceste Tarbes against the US Dax through and won for the fourth time the championship.
