Frauenberg is a French commune with 591 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Sarreguemines arrondissement .

Frauenberg is located on the Blies , which forms the border with Germany here, at an altitude between 198 and 276 m above sea level. The municipality covers 2.75 km².

Culture and sights

Castle ruins on the edge of the village

The castle ruins of Château de Frauenberg (13th / 14th century) with remains of defensive walls, donjon and palas are located on a hill slightly above the village . At the entrance (Rue de Château) there is a small Lady Chapel.

In the center of the village you can find some Wilhelminian style (around 1915) on (unrestored) buildings.

Along the connecting road to the neighboring town of Blies-Ébersing is an old Jewish cemetery , where members of the Sarreguemines Jewish community are still occasionally buried today.

The so-called European Friendship Bridge (Pont de l'Amitié Européenne) connects the place with the neighboring village of Habkirchen on the German side. This 30 m long pedestrian bridge was inaugurated on August 26, 1989 by the then French Foreign Trade Minister, Jean-Marie Rausch , who grew up in Frauenberg . It was built in 1985 from a single steel beam; several previous buildings preceded it from 1760/61.

On the German side is the privately operated customs museum . A Franco-German bridge festival and Easter market take place here regularly.

Economy and Infrastructure

Frauenberg is located directly at a border crossing, but all border protection buildings such as control houses and parking lots have now been removed. At the border bridge, the German federal highway 423 coming from Homburg and Blieskastel merges with the French D 974 to Sarreguemines. From there there is a connection to the Autobahn 4 to Paris and Strasbourg . The airfield Sarreguemines founded 1932nd
