District class Niederrhein 1947/48 →

In the 1946/47 season , the district class formed the top league level in what is now the Lower Rhine Football Association . The champions of the four football districts that existed at the time determined the defending champion Rot-Weiß Oberhausen as the Niederrhein champions in a final round .

In the following season 1947/48 a new three-track state league formed the highest amateur class on the Lower Rhine and thus the substructure of the Oberliga West. Of the 54 district league clubs in the 1946/47 season, five teams secured a starting place in the new Oberliga West for the 1947/48 season . 25 teams were transferred to the new regional league and 24 teams remained in the now third-class district class.

    2 Fortuna Dusseldorf 3 10: 30 5: 1
    3 Sportfreunde Katernberg 3 06:12 1: 5
    4th Rheydter Spielverein 3 05:10 1: 5
  • Promoted to the Oberliga West
  • The placement of the tied teams was not determined by the goal difference, but by two play-offs on June 7, 1947. Rot-Weiß Oberhausen beat Fortuna Dusseldorf 3-1 in Duisburg-Hamborn and thus became Lower Rhine champions. In the game for 3rd place, the Sportfreunde Katernberg beat the Rheydter Spielverein in Duisburg 2-0. Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Sportfreunde Katernberg received the right to start in the new Oberliga West.

Additional qualification for the Oberliga West

In a state-wide promotion round, two further starting places for the new Oberliga West were played out in North Rhine-Westphalia . On the Lower Rhine, the four district runners-up initially determined Hamborn 07 as a participant in the promotion round in a simple round:

    3 TuRa 1886 Essen 3 4: 6 2: 4
    4th Borussia Munich-Gladbach 3 04:10 2: 4

The two first-placed winners with equal points played a playoff on June 28, 1947 in Essen , which Hamborn 07 won 3-0 against TSG Vohwinkel. A second participant from the Lower Rhine in the promotion round was determined in a qualifying game on July 2, 1947 in Düsseldorf , in which the Rheydter Spielverein beat TSG Vohwinkel 3-2 after extra time. In the subsequent round of promotion, Hamborn 07 and the Westphalian representative VfL Witten secured the first two places and thus the right to start the league:

    5 Siegburger SV 04 5 09:12 3: 7
    6th Eschweiler SG 5 4: 7 2: 8
  • Promoted to the Oberliga West
  • TSG Vohwinkel, which was eliminated as runner-up in the Berg-Mark district in qualifying for the promotion round, was subsequently credited with points for its district league season, which would actually have allowed them to participate in the final round. So that this did not have to be repeated completely, TSG Vohwinkel was granted an additional starting place in the Oberliga West, which therefore played in its first season 1947/48 with thirteen instead of twelve participants as originally planned.
