Bayrischzell is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Miesbach and a climatic health resort in the Upper Bavarian Alps.

geography

The community is located at the beginning of the Leitzach Valley at an altitude of between 750 and 1,884 meters in the middle of the Bavarian Prealps. The valley area is dominated by agriculture, the rest of the municipality is mountainous with numerous alpine pastures and large forest areas. The most striking mountain and local mountain of Bayrischzell is the Wendelstein , the highest mountain is the Rotwand . In addition to the Leitzach, there are numerous other streams and the Soinsee in the mountains .

location

Bayrischzell is located in the Mangfall Mountains between Schliersee in the west and Oberaudorf in the east. The place is at the foot of the Wendelstein, at the foot of the Sudelfeld (opposite the Arzmoos valley) and below the Sudelfeldpass . It is located at the northern exit of the Original Valley . In the south, the municipality of Bayrischzell borders on Tyrol (municipality of Thiersee ), the border crossing is at the Ursprungpass (Bäckeralm). Fischbachau is in the north . The place is located 23 km southeast of Miesbach , 25 km northwest of Kufstein and 20 km west of Oberaudorf. The Taubensteinhaus and the Rotwandhaus (1,737 m) are located in the western municipality near the border with the municipality of Schliersee .

history

Around 500 and 700 AD, clearings were made in today's municipality. In 1076, the wife Haziga of Count Palatine Otto II von Scheyern-Wittelsbach founded a hermitage with the Margarethenzell chapel at this point. In 1079 this was converted into a monastery, which was moved to Fischbachau as early as 1085 . Due to its proximity to Tyrol, Bayrischzell (Die Zell) was the scene of armed clashes between local mountain riflemen and the Tyroleans both in the Spanish and Austrian Wars of Succession and in the Napoleonic Wars . In 1811/12 Die Zell (or Margarethenzell) became an independent parish curate . The place has been officially called Bayrischzell since 1832. On 5th / 6th December 1846 there was a Haberfeld drift with over 100 drivers. Around 1900 tourism began to take off. The coat of arms in its current form has been used since 1959 and with the silver diamonds is intended to remind of the close historical relationship with the Wittelsbach family .

After a Leitzachtalbahn Munich – Westerham – Bayrischzell was planned around 1900, the terminus of the Schliersee – Bayrischzell railway has been in operation since October 1, 1911 , and the Bayrischzell-Osterhofen valley station of the Wendelstein cable car since 1970 .

Between 1988 and 2018 the population grew from 1570 to 1610 by 40 inhabitants or 2.6%.

Municipal council

In the 2014 municipal council elections , the CSU, the Free Voters, the Citizens' Association Together for Bayrischzell and the Ständevereinigung drew up a joint list. All twelve parish councils come from this list. The turnout was 67.9 percent.

Others

The General German University Sports Association was founded in Bayrischzell on April 2, 1948 , as a working group of German sports officers before the Federal Republic was constituted.

On the night of June 26, 2006, the brown bear JJ1 , alias Bruno, who immigrated from Italy via Tyrol to Bavaria in May 2006, was killed by two hunters and a police officer on the 1,500 m high Kümpflalm near the Rotwand in the Spitzingsee area in the municipality of Bayrischzell killed by a shot in the lung at a distance of 150 m. The groomed brown bear has been exhibited in the Munich Museum Mensch und Natur since April 2008 .

In autumn 2007, director Rainer Kaufmann shot the ZDF television film The best is yet to come in the Bayrischzell area . In the 1980s, heirs will be learned was also filmed in Bayrischzell . Bayrischzell is currently the location of the TV series Spring .

Leisure and sports facilities

The adjoining Sudelfeld with 19 lifts and around 31 km of prepared slopes is one of the most famous ski areas in the Bavarian Alps and the largest connected ski area in Germany. It can be reached from the site with the chairlift. Since 1970 the Wendelstein can be reached by cable car from Bayrischzell-Osterhofen. The Wendelstein ski area with its 10 km of slopes is an insider tip for experienced skiers.

DSV Nordic Active Center

In winter there are 96 km of groomed trails available for cross-country skiers. In summer, several Nordic walking tours are marked out over a length of 28 km.

There is also a heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and mini golf, and in winter an ice rink and curling rink.
