Greve in Chianti is an Italian municipality with 13,643 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Florence in the Tuscany region .
geography
The community is very large in area and extends over about 169 km². Greve is located about 25 kilometers south of the provincial and regional capital of Florence in the heart of the Chianti region (Chianti fiorentino) and has been one of the capitals of Chianti since the 13th century. It lies on the river Greve . In the southwest the Pesa touches the municipal area, in the east the Ema . The municipality is in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in zone E, 2 126 GG.
The town center has around 3800 inhabitants. The districts (Italian: Frazione ) include Strada in Chianti (largest district, 245 m, approx. 2100 inhabitants), Cintoia (334 m, approx. 75 inhabitants), Dudda (367 m, approx. 45 inhabitants), Lucolena in Chianti (554 m, approx. 200 inhabitants), Montefioralle (approx. 60 inhabitants), Panzano in Chianti (498 m, approx. 1160 inhabitants), San Polo in Chianti (230 m, approx. 975 inhabitants), Lamole (596 m, approx. 30 inhabitants), Passo dei Pecorai (163 m, approx. 300 inhabitants), Greti (120 m, approx. 355 inhabitants), Chiocchio (286 m, approx. 560 inhabitants) and Poggio alla Croce (496 m, approx. 90 inhabitants).
The neighboring municipalities are Bagno a Ripoli , Barberino Tavarnelle , Castellina in Chianti ( SI ), Cavriglia ( AR ), Figline e Incisa Valdarno , Impruneta , Radda in Chianti (SI), Rignano sull'Arno and San Casciano in Val di Pesa .

Greve is conveniently located at the intersection of two roads: the north-south connection from Florence to Siena and the east-west connection between the Arno Valley (Val d'Arno) and the Elsa Valley (Val d'Elsa).
Events and sights
Every mid-September there is a wine fair in Piazza Matteotti with the presentation of the new Chianti (Rassegna del Chianti Classico). The Piazza Matteotti is triangular and surrounded by arcades in which one can find shops and cafes or restaurants. Greve in Chianti is a member of Cittàslow , a movement founded in Italy in 1999 to slow down and improve the quality of life in cities.
The domestic industry is mainly determined by wine and olive oil production. There are also many small craft businesses, some of which still work in the traditional way.
