history
The place was probably founded in the 12th century.
In the 16-point report of the Principality of Ansbach from 1684, 22 teams are recorded for Hohenberg: 1 property was subordinate to the Ansbach court box office , 4 properties to the Ansbach monastery , 5 properties to the Merkendorf administration office , 2 properties to the mayor and council of Ansbach , 11 properties to the custodian Caste office Herrieden and 8 properties to the chapter Herrieden. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Hofkastenamt Ansbach, the village and community rulership was exercised by the Eichstättische Kastenamt Herrieden.
In the geographical statistical-topographical lexicon of Franconia (1800) the place is described as follows:
" Höheberg, a strong Eichstatt hamlet of 24 households, belongs to the Ober- and Stadtvogtey-, then Probstamte Wahrberg Herrieden, and is located on the Fraischgränzscheide of the former Oberamt Ansbach and Wahrberg Herrieden, only half an hour from Herrieden, where he parishes in the Martinskirche is, northeast away between 2 mountains. A stream, which basically comes north of the Hinterberger Weiler, forms some ponds there and falls under Roth into the Altmühl, runs through the middle of Höheberg.
Of the 24 subjects of this hamlet, 3 are Ansbachisch and 21 Eichstättisch, of which the latter 13 are for Probstey Herrieden, 8 but for the prince. Tax offices of the Kollegiate belong there. "
From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach . In 1806 Hohenberg came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the community edict , Hohenberg was assigned to the Rauenzell tax district, formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community Rauenzell , which was founded a little later . With the Second Gemeindeedikt (1818) Hohenberg was a Rural community to which Höfstetten , people Book , Regmannsdorf , Roth , Schernberg and Seebronn belonged. In administration and jurisdiction, it was subordinate to the Herrieden district court and in the financial administration to the Herrieden rent office (from 1920: Herrieden tax office , from 1950: Ansbach tax office ).
In 1840 at the latest, Roth separated from Hohenberg's people book and formed its own rural community. From 1862 Hohenberg was administered by the Feuchtwangen district office (renamed the Feuchtwangen district in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained until 1879 the District Court Herrieden, since 1880 district court Herrieden , 1950 District Court Ansbach . The municipality had an area of 7.798 km².
On July 1, 1971, Hohenberg was incorporated into Herrieden as part of the regional reform .
In 2010 the Roman Catholic Cross Chapel was built in the place.
