Jörgen Persson (born April 22, 1966 in Halmstad , Sweden ) is a Swedish table tennis player and trainer.

Career

Jörgen Persson became world champion in Chiba in 1991 and European champion in men's singles in Prague in 1986 . At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he had to be content with the ungrateful (because medalless) 4th place. He won the European ranking tournament Europe TOP-12 in 1992. With the Swedish team he won 4 world championships and 6 European championships. In 1991 he also won the World Cup. The four-time Swedish champion also played for various clubs in the German Bundesliga for many years (Borussia Düsseldorf, ATSV Saarbrücken, CFC Hertha 06 , TTF Ochsenhausen, SV Plüderhausen). In 1996 Jörgen Persson received the Fair Play Prize from the Association of Swedish Sports Journalists. In the 2007/2008 season Persson joined the German Bundesliga club TTC Rhön-Sprudel Fulda-Maberzell , where he and his friend Jan-Ove Waldner played in the legendary doubles. What was remarkable was his performance at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, when he again reached fourth place at the age of 42.

From October 2020 Jörgen Persson will take over the position of the Swedish men's national coach.
