John King (politician)

John King (born 1775 in Canaan , New York Province, † September 1, 1836 in New Lebanon , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1831 and 1833 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John King was born and raised in Canaan at the beginning of the War of Independence . During this time he attended community schools. Between 1806 and 1808 he was Town Supervisor of Canaan. He was then between 1811 and 1813 and between 1815 and 1819 sheriff in Columbia County . He was then town supervisor in New Lebanon between 1819 and 1813, 1826 and 1829. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1824 .

Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction. In the 1830 congressional elections for the 22nd Congress , King was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eighth constituency of New York , where he succeeded James Strong on March 4, 1831 . He retired from the after March 3, 1833 Congress of.

King died on September 1, 1836 in New Lebanon and was buried in the Cemetery of Evergreens .
