Karl Brunner (luge rider)

Karl Brunner (born May 19, 1951 in Olang , South Tyrol ) is a former luge athlete in artificial track luge and was a long-time member of the Italian team.

The multiple Italian champion was one of the most successful luge athletes in the 1970s. Among his greatest successes are

successes

• the world title in single-seater 1971 in Olang ,
• and the silver medal at the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid , which he won in doubles with his partner Peter Gschnitzer .
• With this he also won the World Cup in the doubles in 1978 and 1979.

His other successes:

• Second place at the 1977 World Championships in Igls in a two-seater (with Peter Gschnitzer)
• Third place at the European Championships in 1977 at Königssee in a single seater
• Second place at the World Championships 1979 at Königssee in a single seater
• Third place at the 1979 European Championships in Oberhof in a two-seater (with Peter Gschnitzer)
• Third place in the overall World Cup 1980 in the single-seater
• First place at the 1980 European Championships in Olang in a single seater
• Second place in the overall World Cup 1980 in a single seater
• Third place in the overall World Cup 1980 in doubles (with Peter Gschnitzer)
• Second place in the overall World Cup 1981 in doubles (with Hansjörg Raffl )
• Third place in the overall World Cup 1981 in the single-seater
