Keep Your Light Shining is a German television program that was broadcast by ProSieben from the end of May to June 2014 . The German edition was produced by Tresor TV . The live broadcasts were produced in the MMC Studios in Cologne .

There was speculation about the broadcast in February 2014, but it was not officially announced until April 2014. Annica Hansen was hired as the presenter . The show consisted of three programs. Just one day after the last edition, ProSieben announced that the format would not be returning for more shows. The reason given was the poor ratings.

The show was seen as a response to the Rising Star format , which was broadcast on RTL in autumn 2014 .

concept

Nine candidates stand in a circle and sing a song together. Each candidate only has 30 seconds to convince the audience. The viewers can then vote via the ProSieben Connect app or online. After each round, the candidate with the fewest positive votes is eliminated until there are only two candidates left. The winner, who is sought in the final round, receives 50,000 euros.

An international and a national star stood by as music experts in each program and gave their assessments of the candidates. However, the experts had no influence on the vote.

Super finals

The regular round was followed by a superfinal in this program, in which the winners of the three editions competed against each other again. Here, too, the decision about the winner was entirely up to the audience. The winner was determined in just one round, in which the candidates performed All The Right Moves by OneRepublic , which was sometimes sung by everyone together. Willy Hubbard was able to prevail against Fabian Bruck and Steffen Oswald and thereby doubled his profit to € 100,000.

reception

criticism

The show received both positive and negative reviews.

Sidney Schering said onquotemeter.de that “the overall picture of the concept and implementation is right” and the show would be “fun”.

Alexander Krei from DWDL.de thinks that ProSieben has succeeded in "keeping the pace high despite or perhaps because of the interactivity, which, by the way, was also reflected in an astonishingly good atmosphere in the studio". Krei only wishes for future shows that "these are a bit more surprising".

Above all, the "obligatory clips about the show participants" and the moderation by Annica Hansen were criticized . Especially in the daily newspapers the show was panned, for example by the Hamburger Abendblatt and the WAZ . A comment by Stefan Niggemeier for the online edition of the FAZ was mixed.

Even before the broadcast began, it was speculated that the ProSieben show would have just as problems with its app as the quiz duel on Das Erste . The app that was hacked by strangers often went on strike.
