Le Petit-Bornand-les-Glières is a village and a former French commune with last 1,118 inhabitants (2015) in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The inhabitants are called Borniands or Bornianches .
With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Le Petit-Bornand-les-Glières and Entremont were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Glières-Val-de-Borne . The former municipalities were not granted the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are located in Le Petit-Bornand-les-Glières.

Le Petit-Bornand-les-Glières is located between Entremont in the south and Saint-Laurent in the north, 9 kilometers southwest of Bonneville and about 30 kilometers southeast of Geneva ( Switzerland ) in a valley in the French Alps . The D12 and the Borne , a mountain stream, run through the area.
history
In the hamlets of Lignières and Beffay there are sulphurous springs that were already known in Gallo-Roman times .
The parish of Petit-Bornand was founded in 1152 during the reign of Count Humbert III. founded by Savoy (around 1120–1189) by the Abbey of Entremont . The church was built in the 13th century, it is dedicated to Notre Dame de la visitation and belonged to the parish of Saint-Victor in Geneva. The village of Bornand was owned by the Abbey of Entremont and the Count of Geneva until 1292 , after which it belonged to the abbey alone until 1772. In 1772 the Borniands bought themselves free for 12,000 livres .
Le Petit-Bornand-les-Glières belonged to the State of Savoy in 1789 , and in 1792 to the former Mont-Blanc department, which was later divided into Savoie and Haute-Savoie. The place finally received the status of a municipality (as Petit Bornand ) in 1793 in the course of the French Revolution and in 1801 the right to local self-government (as Petit-Bornand with and without the preceding article). Since 1947 the municipality has been called Le Petit-Bornand-les-Glières because it is located on the Plateau des Glières .

The image of the area is characterized by alpine meadows. Important occupations in Le Petit-Bornand-les-Glières are the breeding of domestic cattle and domestic sheep and beekeeping . There is a dairy on site that makes Reblochon , among other things .
Personalities
Guillaume Fichet (* 1433 in Le Petit-Bornand-les-Glières; † around 1480) was a teacher and later rector of the Sorbonne . Together with Johannes Heynlin (* around 1430 in Stein; † March 12, 1496 in Basel) he ran the first printing company in France from 1470 to 1473.
