The men's pole vault at the 2016 European Athletics Championships was held on July 6th and 8th, 2016 in the Olympic Stadium in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam .

European champion was Robert Sobera from Poland . He won Jan Kudlička before the Czech European Championship third in 2014 . The Slovenian Robert Renner won the bronze medal.

records : The above-mentioned world record, which is also the European record, was achieved in the hall. In the meantime, according to IAAF Rule 260.2 - Note 2 - in connection with IAAF Rule 260.13, records achieved in the hall are recognized as absolute records.

July 6, 2016, 5:50 p.m.

27 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification height for the direct entry into the final was 5.65 m. No jumper had to approach this height. Ten athletes had jumped 5.50 m, one participant had only got on at 5.60 m and had crossed this height, another athlete who had stood 5.35 m and missed 5.50 m was still in the competition. The jury decided to cancel the qualifying competition, mainly because of the increasing rain. In addition to the eleven athletes who had crossed at least 5.5 m, all sixteen pole vaulters who had mastered at least 5.35 m without any unsuccessful attempt qualified for the final (highlighted in light green). However, one of the qualified athletes could not compete, so that finally fifteen pole vaulters contested the final on the day after next.
