The men's 800-meter race at the 1983 World Athletics Championships took place on August 7, 8 and 9, 1983 in Helsinki , Finland .

58 athletes from 46 countries took part in the competition. The German Willi Wülbeck won the gold medal after 1: 43.65 min, silver went to the Dutchman Rob Druppers with 1: 44.20 min and the bronze medal went to the Brazilian Joaquim Cruz with 1: 44.27 min.
