The list of municipalities in the district of Goslar gives an overview of the ten smallest administrative units in the district . Six of the parishes are cities . Bad Harzburg and Goslar are medium -sized towns , Braunlage , Clausthal-Zellerfeld , Langelsheim and Seesen are small towns . The place Lutter am Barenberge is a town-like place with market rights, a so-called spot .
The current district of Goslar was created in the course of the Lower Saxony district reform on July 1, 1972. The current municipal structure has been in effect since January 1, 2015.

The district can be further subdivided into a joint municipality , the Lutter am Barenberge joint municipality , with the member municipalities of Hahausen , Lutter am Barenberge and Wallmoden .
The cities of Bad Harzburg , Braunlage , Clausthal-Zellerfeld , Goslar , Langelsheim and Seesen are, like the municipality of Liebenburg, unitary municipalities.
The district has a total area of 965.29 km² . The district town of Goslar has the largest area within the district with 163.71 square kilometers. It is followed by the city of Seesen with 102.3 square kilometers. The municipality of Liebenburg has an area of 78.37 square kilometers and the city of Bad Harzburg is 65.42 square kilometers. The town of Langelsheim and the mountain town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld have an area of over 40 square kilometers, the Lutter am Barenberge and the town of Braunlage have an area of over 30 square kilometers, the municipality of Wallmoden is larger than 10 square kilometers and the municipality of Hahausen has an area of 9.65 square kilometers, making it the smallest municipality in the district.
The cities of Goslar with 50,554 inhabitants and Bad Harzburg with 21,926 have the largest share of the population of the district of 136,292 inhabitants, followed by Seesen with 19,240 inhabitants. The cities of Clausthal-Zellerfeld and Langelsheim have over 10,000 inhabitants. The community of Liebenburg and the city of Braunlage have over 5000 inhabitants. Lutter am Barenberge has 2302 inhabitants. The two smallest municipalities, both in terms of population and area, have less than 1,000 inhabitants; these are the communities Wallmoden with 916 inhabitants and Hahausen with 754 inhabitants.
The entire district of Goslar has a population density of Harz region (district of Goslar) . The largest population density within the district are the cities of Clausthal-Zellerfeld with 360 inhabitants per square kilometer, Goslar with 309 and Bad Harzburg with 335, followed by Langelsheim with 231. The cities of Braunlage and Seesen and the municipality of Liebenburg have a population density of over 100, whereby Liebenburg is already below the national average of 145. The other three municipalities Lutter am Barenberge, Hahausen and Wallmoden are the least populated with a population density of less than 100 inhabitants per square kilometer.
