Type / purpose: The abbreviation “TE” stands for “Technologieerprobung”, ie testing new satellite technology ; the ◻ symbol indicates CubeSats . See Satellite Types for further explanation.

Failures and partial successes

  1. A problem occurred during the flight of the third stage; the satellite did not enter orbit. The most likely cause is a break in a fastening of the turbo pump of the third-stage engine. The pump is said to have started vibrating and damaged the rocket stage. The Express AM4 satellite, which was supposed to replace the AM4R, was also lost due to a Proton false start. ( Russian Space Web , as of May 1, 2019)
  2. A hydrazine line froze due to a design flaw in the Fregat upper stage . As a result, two attitude control thrusters did not work and the thrust vector of the main engine pointed in the wrong direction. Ultimately, both satellites were placed in orbits that were too elliptical and could not be used for regular Galileo operations. ( Arianespace research report , Oct. 8, 2014)
  3. The rocket's Briz upper stage shut down too early after its third reignition and launched the payload in an orbit that was too low. The satellite could then reach the planned geostationary orbit with its own propulsion ( Gunter's Space Page ).
  4. 15 seconds after takeoff, the liquid oxygen turbo pump of one of the two AJ26 engines of the first stage rocket exploded . The rocket fell back next to the launch site and the flight ended in a huge explosion. The AR26 engines were based on Soviet NK-33 engines that had been produced for the N1 rocket in reserve in the 1970s . ( NASA investigation report from October 9, 2015)

Further remarks

  1. a b c d These small satellites were brought to the ISS and launched into space from there. Your Cospar IDs are derived from the ISS ID ( 1998-067A ). These satellites may not be included in databases such as the NSSDC catalog .
  2. The 104 small satellites were not deployed as planned (see KickSat ).
  3. Velox-P3 was supposed to be exposed by Velox-1 towards the end of the mission, but has not been identified. This could be due to its size of only 0.25  Cubesat units or the fact that the suspension did not work (see Gunter's Space Page ).
  4. The MMM probe was firmly attached to the upper rocket stage.
