Ranking by size worldwide
The size of a petroleum company is measured primarily by its output. In the oil industry, the production rate is given in Barrel of Oil Equivalent (boe) per day. This unit of measurement enables the total production of oil and gas to be expressed in a single number.
Turnover figures, on the other hand, are only suitable as a benchmark for listed companies, but only to a limited extent here, as the figures are heavily distorted depending on the exchange rate development. Since most of the world's largest oil production companies are state-controlled companies that often do not publish business figures, sales figures are not suitable for a comparison of the entire industry.
