Pompano Beach is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 99,845 inhabitants (as of 2010). The urban area has a size of 57.4 km ².
geography
Pompano Beach is located around 30 km north of Miami and around 10 km from Fort Lauderdale on the Atlantic Ocean . Adjacent communities in clockwise order are Lauderdale-by-the-Sea , Fort Lauderdale, North Lauderdale , Margate , Coconut Creek , Deerfield Beach , Lighthouse Point, and Hillsboro Beach .
climate
The climate is mild and warm. Statistically, however, it rains about 50% of the days in the summer months. The highest temperatures are in May to October, with up to 29 ° C. The coldest months from December to February with an average of only 12 ° C. Snowfall is almost unknown in the region.
history
Pompano Beach was founded around 1900 and registered as a city in 1907. During the country boom in the 1920s, the city grew very quickly. In 1950 the population was already 5682 inhabitants. The next spurt of growth, like most cities in Florida, came towards the end of the 20th century . Many retirees use the city as a second residence in the winter months.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 99,845 inhabitants were distributed over 55,885 households. The population density was 1876.8 inh / km². 62.2% of the population identified themselves as whites , 28.9% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.3% as Asian Americans . 4.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.4% to several ethnic groups. 17.5% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 23.7% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 33.9% of all households. 53.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.27 people and the average family size was 3.00 people.
20.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 25.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 24.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 43 years. 51.0% of the population were male and 49.0% were female.
The median annual income was $ 39,943, with 20.7% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 76.38% of the population, 9.34% spoke Spanish and 14.28% had another mother tongue.

traffic
Interstate 95 , US Highway 1 and Florida State Roads A1A , 5 , 811 , 814 and 845 run through the city . In addition, the Florida's Turnpike touches the city on the western edge. It also has a stop on the Tri-Rail operated railway link from Mangonia Park to Miami . Pompano Beach can be reached by plane nationally via the Pompano Beach Airpark and internationally via Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport .

Parks and sports facilities
There is a wide range of 17 different city parks as well as several sporting facilities, as well as playgrounds and opportunities for camping. Sports options include softball, baseball, football, basketball, soccer and swimming, fishing, deep sea fishing and yachting. A spacious promenade with a marina is the main attraction for vacationers and tourists.

The crime rate in 2010 was 499 points (US average: 266 points) in the high range. There were seven murders, 50 rapes, 364 robberies, 571 bodily harm, 1101 break-ins, 3529 thefts, 367 car thefts and ten arson.
