from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Märkische Eiszeitstraße is a 340 kilometer long adventure route in the northeast of Brandenburg , which is not based on political and administrative boundaries (districts). The route leads through the districts of Barnim , Märkisch-Oderland and Uckermark, past many starting points for the landscape and culture.

landscape

The area was formed by the glaciers of the Weichselian glacial period (20,000 to 13,000 years ago). The glacial period left behind glacial valleys , ground and terminal moraines , sand , erratic boulders , burrows , over 500 lakes, kames , oser and drumlins .

The result of this Ice Age are still numerous evidence of settlement history, such as large stone graves , stone churches and farm buildings, cobblestone streets and medieval city walls .

The sparsely populated region with forests and lakes is ideal for hiking, horse riding, cycling and boating.
