In the 19th century the place had mostly around 350 inhabitants. As a result of the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the mechanization of agriculture , the number of inhabitants decreased continuously in the first half of the 20th century to the lowest level in the 1980s.

economy

In the Haut-Quercy , agriculture was primarily self-sufficient , which also included viticulture until the 19th century, but which was almost completely abandoned after the phylloxera crisis . Today - in addition to agriculture, retail and handicrafts - tourism in the form of renting holiday apartments ( gîtes ) plays a major role in the economic life of the municipality.

history

The place with prehistoric traces ( Dolmen de la Combe de l'Ours ) was disputed in the Middle Ages between the manors ( seigneuries ) of the Barasc and Cardaillac families , until the latter finally prevailed.

Attractions

  • The castle ( château ) was built in the 12th and 13th centuries - only the keep ( donjon ) and the remains of two enclosing walls, between which terraces were built, remain. The privately owned building was classified as a Monument historique in 1984 .
  • The megalithic complex Dolmen des Aguals still has its largely preserved tumulus . It was classified as a Monument historique in 2001 . There are more dolmens in the neighboring municipality of Gréalou .
  • The Saint-Blaise church was the former castle chapel and faces north-south. The structure of the building was repeatedly changed in the past and it was not until the French Revolution that it became the local parish church.
