March 7th : Jenny Lind makes her debut in the role of Agathe in Weber's opera Der Freischütz at the Stockholm Opera. This marked the beginning of her remarkable career as an opera singer.

- January 27 : World premiere of the opera Marco Visconti by Nicola Vaccai in Turin, (Teatro Regio)
- January 30th : The world premiere of the opera Maria de Rudenz by Gaetano Donizetti takes place at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. The libretto is by Salvatore Cammarano . The literary basis is the works La nonne sanglante by Anicet-Bourgeois , Jean-Guillaume-Antoine Cuvelier and Jean Maillan as well as The Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis . The work will be removed from the program again after the second performance.
