- February 4th : The premiere of the opera Belisario by Gaetano Donizetti takes place at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice . The libretto is by Salvatore Cammarano . Celestino Salvatori and Caroline Unger will sing the leading roles .
- February 13 : World premiere of the opera Il disertore per amore by Luigi Ricci in Naples, (Teatro del fondo)
- February 23 : Premiere of the opera Giovanna Gray by Nicola Vaccai in Milan, (Teatro alla Scala)
- February 29 : At the Grand Opéra Paris is the grand opera Les Huguenots by Giacomo Meyerbeer premiered. The libretto is by Eugène Scribe and Émile Deschamps .
- March 22nd : The opera I briganti by Saverio Mercadante based on the drama Die Räuber by Friedrich Schiller is premiered at the Théâtre-Italien in Paris.
- March 29th : Premiere of the opera Das Liebesverbot by Richard Wagner in Magdeburg. It is the composer's second completed opera.
- April 8 : The world premiere of the opera Alice by Friedrich von Flotow takes place in the Hôtel Castellane in Paris.
- May 22nd : Paulus , the first oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , is premiered at the Niederrheinischer Musikfest in Düsseldorf. On October 3rd it will be conducted for the first time in the English version by Sir George Smart in Liverpool.
