The district is located in the south of the country on the border with Lithuania .
population
An administrative community of the municipalities of Nereta, Mazzalvas, Pilskalne and Slave has existed since 2009. In 2010, 4,383 residents were registered.
religion
The region's Catholics belong to the Jelgava diocese . Catholic churches exist in Nereta (Church of the Holy Spirit, Svētā Gara baznīca ) and in the districts Ērberģe and Kankaļi (St. John the Baptist, Svētā Jāņa Kristītāja baznīca ) of the Mazzalvas community.
