News from the establishment was a political cabaret show that was produced and broadcast over 62 episodes by the German television station ZDF . In the summer of 2013, the end of the program was surprisingly announced. The last live episode was broadcast on ZDF on October 1, 2013. On February 4, 2014, the successor to the show was broadcast for the first time under the title Die Anstalt .
broadcast
News from the establishment was ZDF's first political cabaret show since the program Notizen aus der Provinz , moderated by Dieter Hildebrandt , was discontinued in 1979 after an intervention by ZDF program director Dieter Stolte . Therefore Hildebrandt appeared in the first broadcast of news from the institution . His contributions were limited to the transfer of the " baton " to "28 years of satire free ZDF" as well as a single sentence to the end of the broadcast, which lasted but three minutes, in which he alleged unveiling of Cicero , Jürgen Habermas was once a convinced Nazi been ridiculed.
The political cabaret was broadcast up to ten times a year, usually once a month, on Tuesdays according to ZDF heute-journal and broadcast live from the ARRI studios in Munich . Cabaret artists Urban Priol led through the show, Georg Schramm up to episode 36 and Frank-Markus Barwasser from episode 37 . Well-known guests from the field of cabaret joined them . The regular duration of an issue was between 45 and 50 minutes. Priol moderated the beginning and end of the program in the style of Dieter Thomas Heck's dramatic staccato moderation of the ZDF hit parade series . The title and intermediate music of the show was the song Spinning Wheel by Blood, Sweat & Tears .
The studio was the foyer of a psychiatric clinic . The performing cabaret artists could enter the stage via corridors, stairs and an elevator. In News from the Institution, Priol was the head of the clinic. As a running gag , he attached great importance to the fact that he was the only one allowed to use the elevator. Priol only offered women such as the regularly appearing "woman from the reading circle" ( Monika Gruber ) to use the elevator. Schramm played the patient spokesman as a pensioner Dombrowski . In the supporting roles Schramm appeared as Lieutenant Colonel Sanftleben and as the old Hessian social democrat and trade unionist August , characters that Schramm played in his earlier work in the program windshield wiper . In episode 6, Schramm also played the role of a pharmaceutical representative for the first time . The show was directed by Frank Hof . The guests who appeared mostly played patients, but sometimes also external people who visited the institution for professional reasons, for example.
On May 25, 2010 Georg Schramm announced that he would be leaving the cabaret series in order to be able to concentrate fully on his stage program again after ten years of intensive television presence. The decision was not an easy one for him, and he also praised the ZDF's trust in his work. After his last broadcast on June 8, 2010, he only appeared in the farewell sequence of the broadcast on October 1, 2013. On October 19, 2010, Frank-Markus Barwasser alias Erwin Pelzig, who had already appeared on the show several times, succeeded Schramm as a permanent member of the show. Barwasser played the speaker for press work and communication in the institution, but also appeared with topics without this reference.
On June 26, 2013 it was announced that both Frank-Markus Barwasser and Urban Priol would leave the program and devote themselves to other projects. The format was last broadcast with the two presenters on October 1, 2013, before it returned to the ZDF program on February 4, 2014 under the title Die Anstalt with the new hosts Max Uthoff and Claus von Wagner .
In October 2017, the former institution makers Barwasser (Pelzig), Priol, Malmsheimer and Schramm met their successors for the first time in the institution edition.

criticism
On April 13, 2010, Urban Priol spoke about the death of Polish President Lech Kaczyński , who had died three days earlier in the plane crash near Smolensk . He also referred to the funeral ceremonies and international reactions to death: “Is there a hypocrisy going on: How popular he was, Lech Kaczyński, smiled at as a pain in the ass all over Europe. Nobody wanted to have anything to do with him. ”The statement sparked criticism in the Polish media. The ZDF program director Thomas Bellut issued a statement for Polish television in which he pointed out that it was a satire and that the broadcaster regretted having hurt feelings. Priol said he wanted to "denounce the rituals around bereavement".
