Nonstock Festival
The Nonstock Festival is a music festival that has existed since 1998 . It takes place annually between July and August in Nonrod in the Hessian district of Darmstadt-Dieburg .

history
Since the performance opportunities for young bands in the Odenwald were very limited at the end of the 90s, two brothers from Nonrod and other musicians had the idea of organizing a music festival. The first nonstock festival took place in 1998 under the motto “Music in the ass of the world”, mainly as a birthday party and concert by the band “Hardcore Music Party Group” on the parents' farm of the two festival founders. It was visited by 400 people. Since the farm quickly became too small as an event location, the event moved to a meadow below the 1. FC Niedernhausen sports field between Nonrod and Niedernhausen in 1999. Since then, the meadow in the Fischbachtal has also been referred to as a “culture meadow” or “nonstock meadow”. The festival had up to 4,000 weekend visitors at times and alternates between the farm and the “Kulturwiese” as an event location.
In 2003 the association Kulturwiese Nonstock e. V. founded. Since then it has acted as the sponsoring association of the festival and various other music and cultural events.
The festival has had to struggle with heavy rain since its inception. That is why the main stage was in a tent in 2005/06 and was held under the motto “We rock even when it's pissing”.
Due to an impending injunction by a hunting tenant in 2009, the continued existence of the festival was uncertain. Since the agreement dragged on and the festival also had personnel bottlenecks, there was no nonstock festival in 2010, but a rather spontaneously organized one-day event with the title “Helga's forest and meadow break”. Between 2011 and 2014, the festival was able to take place in full again and was more successful than ever with up to 4000 visitors. The event featured well-known names such as Casper , Kraftklub , Prinz Pi , Bilderbuch , Feine Sahne Fischfilet , Dendemann etc. At times, up to 200 volunteers were involved in the implementation.
In 2014 the festival suffered another major setback. Thunderstorm rains disrupted the festival operations and damage occurred, visitors stayed away, which led to a massive deficit. In order to make up for the losses, fundraising campaigns were carried out and the series of events "Ignite the rain" was launched. In order not to forego an event completely in 2015, a one-day courtyard festival was held at the Röderhof.
Due to the great popularity and the lower risk, the organizers decided to hold the festival in a smaller group of around 800 visitors at the Röderhof.
In 2016 the festival, sold out for the first time, took place on the farm again. This time the supporting program was extended to around 40 acts, spread over three stages.
In 2017, the success of the “Nonstock Farmer's Edition” of last year was built on: Again around 800 visitors at the end of Nonrod were able to experience a festival around the farm, which with its diverse and demanding program took place there again in 2018.

The program includes music from the fields of rock, alternative, punk, pop, rap, hip-hop, electro, indie and singer-songwriter. In addition, poetry and variety will find a stage here. A total of around 40 acts and activities, spread over three stages, await the visitor.
Courtyard stage
The so-called courtyard stage is located in the Drei Seitenhof. Artists of various genres perform here in the rustic atmosphere of the courtyard.
Meadow stage
The somewhat smaller meadow stage is not far from a campfire in the middle of one of the two campsites. A varied program with singer-songwriter acts and smaller rock and folk formations is offered here. In addition, the stage becomes an open stage several times over the weekend, where visitors and bands jam together.
Indoor stage
Poetry, theater, workshops, readings and film form the cultural heart of the indoor stage. The hall is only 100 meters from the courtyard and 50 meters from the Wiesenbühne. In this small room, which can hold around 70 visitors, the organizers succeed in supplementing the musical program on the other two stages with formats that may often be surprising. Thanks to the long-standing collaboration with the Weiterstadt Open Air Film Festival , short films are shown there every year.
Visitors
The Nonstock Festival has been attended by around 3,000 people from the age of 16 to old age since 2011. The "Nonstock Farmer's Edition", which has been taking place since 2016, offers space for around 800 visitors. In general, many families can be found at the festival who use the festival Saturday in particular for a musical excursion. The festival is not only known in the area, but has also achieved a certain degree of awareness throughout Germany. This can be seen in the visitors who spare no expense or effort to travel from distant federal states.
Volunteers
It is only possible to organize this festival thanks to the numerous voluntary helpers. They ensure that everything runs smoothly and, among other things, take care of assembly and dismantling, parking, drinks and camping. The festival thanks its helpers with free admission, a drink pass and sometimes exclusive non-stock t-shirts. On average there are around 100 helpers per year. From 2011 to 2014 there were up to 200 volunteers.
