Afghanistan took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . It was the 14th participation in the Summer Olympics. The Afghanistan National Olympic Committee nominated three athletes in the sports of judo and athletics.
The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was the judoka Mohammad Tawfiq Bakhshi .
