Polling is a municipality in the Weilheim-Schongau district in Upper Bavaria .

geography

Polling is in the Oberland region . The Ammer flows through the municipality in a south-north direction , the Tiefenbach , a tributary of the Ammer, flows through the town of Polling.

The municipality consists of three districts , which correspond to the former municipalities, and has eight officially named municipality parts (the type of settlement is indicated in brackets ):

history

Until the church is planted

The first traces of a settlement in the Polling area date from the 4th millennium BC. In the tuff quarries , clay pots and tools from this period repeatedly come to light. Parts of it are also on display in the Polling Local History Museum and in the State Archaeological Collection in Munich .

According to legend, Polling was founded around the year 750. Duke Tassilo III. von Bayern hunted a hind in the area. This suddenly stopped and pawed on the ground. Then three wooden crosses were found there. At this point, built Herzog Tassilo then the Benedictines - and later Augustinian canons pin Polling Abbey .

In the monastery church there is actually a wooden cross, which, according to research, dates from the 9th century at the earliest. According to Benediktbeurer sources, the monastery is said to have been founded by members of the Huosi , a local noble family. The first written evidence comes from the 11th century.

The place itself was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark , whose seat was Polling Monastery until 1803. Together with the monastery, the Hofmark was abolished in 1803 .

With the community edict of 1818 , the community of Polling, which belonged to the Weilheim district court , was established.

In the spring of 2016 there was a major flood in the place after heavy rainfall.

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent communities Oderding and Etting were incorporated in the course of the municipal area reform.

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 2,734 to 3,461 by 727 inhabitants or by 26.6%. The following population figures were achieved in the municipality:

Mayor of the municipality of Polling has been Martin Pape (CSU) since May 1, 2020, who replaced Felicitas Betz (Polling community) in the local elections on March 15, 2020. Betz held the office of mayor from May 1, 2014 to April 30, 2020. Predecessors in office were Helmut Böhm and Dominikus Weiß (honorary citizen and former mayor) from 1990 to 2008 from 2008 to 2014.

Coat of arms and flag

After the Second World War , Polling had an oval coat of arms from 1945 to 1950, which showed a doe standing on a cross. On June 15, 1950, the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior gave the municipality the right to use the current coat of arms designed by the graphic artist Rudolf Mussgnug. The blazon reads: "A floating cross in red".

The local council decided on August 10, 1989 to adopt a flag. It shows two stripes in the color sequence red - yellow and should be carried with the coat of arms on top. The government of Upper Bavaria approved the adoption of the flag on May 8, 1990.

Economy including agriculture and forestry

In 1998 there were eight in agriculture and forestry, 230 in manufacturing and 53 in trade and transport at the place of work. In other economic sectors 169 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were 910 employees subject to social security contributions at the place of residence. There was one in the manufacturing sector and eleven in the construction sector. In addition, in 1999 there were 79 farms with an agriculturally used area of ​​1875 ha. Of this, 373 ha were arable land and 1502 ha were permanent green space.

The municipal tax revenue in 2012 amounted to the equivalent of € 2,668 thousand, of which € 693 thousand (net) was trade tax income.

In earlier times the rich deposits of Pollinger tufa were economically very important. Many buildings in Polling and the surrounding area were built with this tufa as building material. Today only one of the once numerous tuff quarries still exists.

traffic

The station was opened in May 1879 and has only been a depot since 1984 . Until the end of passenger traffic, it was still used by 100 to 150 passengers every day. It lies on the Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen railway line .

education

In 1999 the following institutions existed:
