ProA 2008/09
The 2008/09 season is the second season of the German ProA basketball division . The ProA is the first season of the hierarchically structured 2nd basketball league . The regular season began on October 3, 2008 and ended on April 25, 2009.
mode
16 teams took part in the league. The two best-placed teams acquired the right to participate in the basketball Bundesliga (BBL). The two worst teams relegated to the lower season ProB of the second division.
conditions
The participating teams had to prove a minimum budget of € 200,000 and a venue with a capacity for 1,000 spectators. An increase for the 2009/2010 season had already been decided.
During the game, one German player per team always had to stand on the field, the German players were marked with a German flag on the jerseys.
A maximum of 18 players per season and team could be used. At least nine of them had to be German citizens. Of the maximum of twelve players that could be used per game, at least six had to be German. There were double licenses for players in the U24 age group with the BBL and for U22 players from the regional leagues (and below). These players do not count among the 18 maximum players, but they do count towards the national quota (provided they are German).
Season Notes
- The Kaiserslautern Braves played their home games in neighboring Homburg this season .
- Since the Düsseldorf Magics waived their 2nd BBL license by moving the Bayer Giants Leverkusen to Düsseldorf , the license was passed on to FC Bayern Munich , which rose directly from the regional league to the ProA.
- The SOBA Dragons Rhöndorf decided not to participate in the ProA in favor of their youth development concept and will play in the ProB in the 2008/09 season . This enabled BV Chemnitz 99 , which had finished last season on a relegation place, to remain in the ProA.
- Because the Cuxhaven BasCats did not move up , there was only one relegation from the BBL , Science City Jena .
- The two newcomers from the ProB were: Kirchheim Knights and ETB Wohnbau Baskets Essen .
