Rosenberg is a municipality in Baden-Württemberg and belongs to the Ostalb district .

geography

Geographical location

Rosenberg is located between Ellwangen in the southeast and Schwäbisch Hall in the northwest in the transition area from Ellwanger Bergen (west) and Virngrund (east), both the natural environment Swabian-Franconian Forest are attributed.

The highest point in the municipality of Rosenberg is the Hohenberg ( 569  m above sea  level ), over which a section of the Franconian-Swabian Way of St. James leads. The lowest point is a little below 430  m above sea level. NN below the Orrotsee in the Orrot valley near the eastern tip of the municipality. On its southwestern border in the valley of the Middle Blind Red, northeast of Bühlerzell -Röhmen, the bed of this river has dug itself almost as deep.

The municipal area is drained in the southwest, west and northwest by their left tributaries to the Blinden Rot, from the Geißbach in the southwest up to the Eisenbach in the northwest. The rest of the outflow always reaches the Jagst . In the northern area this takes place to the east via the Sulzbach overflows Harbach / Sobach and Grunbach , in the central area southeast over the Orrot overflows Glasbach and Orbach and their shorter lower tributaries from the right. The Rotenbach , which rises just south-east of Hohenberg , reaches the Jagst in the south-east, a little further south its tributary drains the Klapperschenkelbach , almost in the south on a short section of the Sizenbach-Oberlauf Frankenbach towards Jagst. In the far south, tributaries of the blind red join again.

The municipality has a largest north-south extension of almost 9.5 km. It stretches from the Harbach in the north, the uppermost course of the Jagst tributary Sulzbach , over the Hohenberg to the area of the Schönberg in the south, the highest elevation of the Ellwang Mountains , which lies just beyond the municipal boundary. In the east-west direction, the municipality reaches a maximum width of 7.5–8 km, from the middle course of the Blinden Rot to the Orrot -Nordkehre at Jagstzell -Dietrichsweiler, where the border of the Jagst comes within less than a kilometer.

The northernmost point of the community is at the Schimmelsägmühle in the Harbach valley. From there, its border runs southeast past Hummelweiler and then follows the Orrot-Oberlauf Glasbach on the left at a distance of about one kilometer, mostly through forest to the east of Unterknausen. From here the border goes down to the Orrot, which it reaches after the wood mill , and follows it through the Orrotsee to its own eastern point and almost exactly its north bend at Jagstzell-Dietrichsweiler. From here the border runs through the Dürrenwald in an all in all south-westerly direction to the area of the Schönberg, which it spares in a north arch, and then reaches its southern tip south of Hütten . Then it turns to the north-northwest and reaches the course of the Blinden Rot about one kilometer north of the Adelmannsfelder Röhmensägmühle , which it then follows very steadily up the valley in the same direction to the Ludwigsmühle . Here, the municipal area bays out over a width of almost one and a half kilometers across the river to the west to less than a kilometer northwest of Willa , from where a narrow tube on both sides of the Blinden Rot creates a small almost exclave of the municipal area around the Betzenhof and the Lindenhof on the uppermost Blinden Rot connects with the rest of the community. From the starting point of the hose, the municipal boundary then continues to the northeast in front of the long Frankenhardt Waldgewann Harbach and then again reaches the Schimmelsägmühle am Harbach .

More than 60% of the Rosenberg municipality area is forested. The settlement areas are spread over three large and three small clearing islands.

The largest is the Rosenberger , which lies a little north of the center of the community and in which around the central village of Rosenberg in the west the Birkhof , in the northwest Geiselrot , in the northeast just before the Glasbach the Herlingshof and the Herlingssägmühle , in the east across the stream Unterknausen in East-southeast on the Orrot is the 16 hectare industrial area of the wood mill and in the southeast the Ohrmühle .

The large northern corridor island surrounds Hummelsweiler , which is bordered by the Scheubenhof immediately to the north and the Mehlhof immediately to the east . The Schüsselhof is a little bit south-southeast, the Spitzensägmühle is mostly on the tree line in the south. To the west of Hummelweiler, across a small lake, lies the Farbhäusle , to the northwest the Schimmelhof , further northwest the Schimmelsägmühle at the northernmost point of the community.

The large southern corridor island surrounds Hohenberg . Hohenberg itself is at the northernmost point, at the north and east foot of the eponymous mountain. Less than a kilometer south-east of this is the Dieselhof above the basin of the beginning Rotenbachtal . About as far south is pine wood , also Krauthof called behind in not quite double distance Matze Miter , the south-east in the Stumpfhof passes. Zumhof is about the same distance as Matzengehren in the south-southwest, which is made up of the nearby Webershof and the distant Gansershof .

The largest of the small clearing islands is located in the very south and includes Hinterbrand in its east, huts in its west and the Hüttenhof a little southeast of Hütten.

Where the L 1060 crosses the valley of the Blinden Rot between the upper and middle reaches is the western corridor island around Willa . It includes the Ludwigsmühle in the very south, halfway there the Uhlenhof , close to Willa northeast the Zollhaus and northeast the Zollhof and a little further north- northeast Hochtänn . Further north on the upper reaches of the Blinden Rot are the Betzenhof at its Mühlweiher and the Lindenhof, both in a northern bulge of the municipality.

history

Rosenberg was mentioned for the first time in 1344 in the valid book of the Hohenberg provost's office. Since the area has very quartz-rich sand and a great abundance of wood, a glassworks was built, which existed from the end of the Thirty Years War until 1876. However, some districts are older, such as B. Hochtänn, which was first mentioned in 1024. For centuries, the area belonged to the Prince Provost of Ellwangen . When this was secularized due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , the area fell to the Kingdom of Württemberg , where it was assigned to the Oberamt Ellwangen , with which it came to the Aalen district in 1938 .

Only the district of Hummelsweiler had belonged to Vellberg since 1336 and to the imperial city of Schwäbisch Hall since the 16th century , but then became part of Württemberg due to the mediation at the beginning of the 19th century.

Since the community had become part of the American occupation zone after the Second World War , it had belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden since 1945 , which was merged into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952. Since the district reform in 1973 , Rosenberg has been part of the new Ostalb district .

Religions

Due to the affiliation to the Prince Provost of Ellwangen, the Reformation passed Rosenberg by and the place remained loyal to the Pope. In Hummelsweiler, on the other hand, the Lutheran denomination was introduced because of its membership in Schwäbisch Hall . Today there are also two Roman Catholic churches (in the core town and in Hohenberg), while the only Protestant church is in Hummelsweiler ( parish Hummelsweiler ).
