Samoded ( Russian Самодед ) is an urban-type settlement in northwestern Russia . The place belongs to the Arkhangelsk Oblast and has 1518 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). It is located in Rajon Plesetsk .

Samoded is located about 190 kilometers south of the Oblast capital Arkhangelsk , on the Waimuga River , which is connected to the Northern Dvina via the Jemza River on the left . The city of Plesetsk , the administrative center of the Raion, is 137 kilometers south of Samoded.

history

The place originated with the construction of a sawmill in 1925 as a Lesopunkt ( лесопункт ), so it was a working settlement for the local workers in the wood industry. At the same time Samoded received with the construction of the railway station Permilowo ( Пермилово ) connection to the railway network. In 1927 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement , as well as the name Samoded, named after the military commissar civil war hero Grigory Ivanovich Samoded. In 1929 Samoded became part of Plesetsk Raion. In addition to the timber industry, agriculture and animal husbandry were the main branches of the economy at that time.

Economy and Infrastructure

The timber industry companies are still the main employers in the settlement. The settlement's infrastructure is poorly developed, so there are often problems with the power supply. There is also no cellular network.

In the southern part Samodeds there is the railway station Permilowo , a station of the Northern Railway on the route Konosha - Arkhangelsk, between the stations Obozersky and Cholmogorskaja .
