Novodvinsk is located in northwestern Russia on the Northern Dvina , near the White Sea . The distance to the regional capital Arkhangelsk , which is also the closest city, is 20 km.

history

In 1936 a settlement for the workers of a cellulose factory was established in the area of ​​the present city . She was called Voroshilovsky . In 1941 it became an urban-type settlement . In 1957 the settlement was renamed Pervomaiski . In 1977 Pervomaiski was raised to the status of a city and renamed Novodvinsk ("New Dvina City").
