history
Until the church is planted
Around 1600, a wandering glassworks in the "Reichenau" initiated settlement activity. Neureichenau (formerly Unterreichenau) belonged to the part of the old bishopric of Passau , which was acquired by Prince-Bishop Leopold Ernst Graf von Firmian in 1765 from the Upper Austrian lordship of Rannariedl with the seven Künischen villages . In 1806 what is now the municipality, after it had previously belonged to the Grand Duchy of Salzburg from 1803 to 1806, became part of Bavaria.
renaming
On April 27, 1951, the community of Schimmelbach was officially renamed Neureichenau .

On April 1, 1971, Klafferstraß also came voluntarily. On January 1, 1978 Altreichenau and Lackenhäuser were incorporated into the municipality of Neureichenau.

coat of arms
Neureichenau The coat of arms description reads: “Divided by a golden wavy strip of red and green; above a silver book with three golden seals hanging from it; below a silver three-mountain, on it a blue ball. "
The golden wavy strip and the Dreiberg express the geographic location of the communities on the Große Michl and the Dreisessel in the lower Bavarian Forest. The seal book in the upper field comes from the coat of arms of Prince-Bishop Leopold Ernst Graf von Firmian , who acquired Neureichenau in 1765 for the Passau bishopric. The ball in the base of the shield is a so-called paternoster ball and, as a glassmaking product, refers to the local importance of this branch of industry.
Altreichenau
The coat of arms description reads: “Divided into silver and red; in front a red falcon on a stone base made of three green blocks, behind a white / silver goblet. "
Founded by the Counts of Salburg shows the falcon, the sovereignty of Austria (since 1506) and the prince-bishops of Passau (since 1765) are represented by the colors red and silver. The trophy is reminiscent of glass production in Altreichenau. The three stone blocks should also refer to the Dreisesselberg, a landmark of the region.
Lackenhäuser
The description of the coat of arms reads: On a green ground a golden three-mountain, above it in white / silver a brick obelisk, on the right and left a white / silver spruce branch.
The hills and the spruce branches refer to the geographical location of the place (Eastern Bavaria / Bavarian Forest). The obelisk stands for the Adalbert Stifter memorial, which is located in the Lackenhäuser district and commemorates the poet.
ILE compartment
The community is a member of the “Integrated Rural Development Abteiland” (ILE Abteiland) working group founded by 11 communities in April 2011, whose motto is to preserve and design the natural, cultural and economic area of Abteiland as a livable home.
