The Scottish League Cup was played for the 9th time in 1954/55 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 14, 1954 and ended with the final on October 23, 1954 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . As the defending champion, FC East Fife started the competition that had prevailed against Partick Thistle in the previous year's final . In this year's final hit Heart of Midlothian on the FC Motherwell . The Hearts from Edinburgh reached the final of the League Cup for the first time. Well moved into the final for the second time after 1951 . Back then, the club won the final against Hearts ' rivals , the Hibs . The Hearts won the final 4-2, including a hat-trick from Willie Bauld . In the Scottish Championship , Hearts finished fourth and Well fifteenth.
