The Scottish League Cup was played for the 17th time in 1962/63 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 11, 1962 and ended with the final on October 27, 1962 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . As the defending champion, the Glasgow Rangers started the competition which had prevailed against Heart of Midlothian in the previous year's final . In this year's final, met Hearts on Kilmarnock . The Hearts reached the League Cup final for the fifth time after 1955 , 1959 , 1960 and 1962 . The Killies were able to reach the final for the third time after 1953 and 1961 . The Hearts won the final with a goal from Norrie Davidson 1-0 and took the title for the fourth time. The Killies lost the League Cup final for the third time. In the same season , the Killies were runners-up in the league behind the Glasgow Rangers. The Hearts finished fifth.
