The University of Surrey is a public university based in Guildford , United Kingdom.

history

In 1891 the "Battersea Polytechnic Institute" was founded. In 1956 the name was changed to "Battersea College of Technology". After the college grew too big for the Battersea building in the early 1960s , it was decided to move to Guildford .

In 1966 the University of Surrey was officially established and in 1970 the move from Battersea to Guildford was completed.

An early visitor to the new campus was the band Led Zeppelin , who performed at the university on October 15, 1968.

Rankings

For years, the University of Surrey has been the leading university in the fields of hotel and hospitality management as well as tourism management in numerous national rankings. For many other fields of study, the university is listed among the top ten universities in the country. Overall, according to the 2016 Guardian University Guide ranking, the University of Surrey is ranked 4th among the best universities in Great Britain.

Activities outside the UK

Germany

The University of Surrey offered its part-time MBA (Master of Business Administration) program and the DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) program in Germany until 2012 . The cooperation with the German study center has meanwhile been terminated.
