The Ventspils District ( Ventspils novads ) is an administrative district in western Latvia that was established in 2009 . The administration building is located in Ventspils, although this city as the so-called Republic City itself does not belong to the district.

In the course of an administrative reform, the Ventspils district was dissolved in 2009. 12 rural communities and the city of Piltene joined together to form an administrative community. In 2010, 13,510 inhabitants were registered.

nature

The rivers Venta , Abava , Užava, Irbe and Lūžupe flow through the area . The two largest lakes are Usma Lake and Puze Lake. In the west is the Baltic Sea coast . The oldest nature reserve in Latvia (1912), namely the Moricsala reserve, is also partly in the area.
