About this picture

Siegsdorf (in dialect: "Siagsdorf") is both a place and a municipality in the Traunstein district in Upper Bavaria .

Since the 1970s it has been a large municipality due to the Bavarian territorial reform . The following formerly independent communities were incorporated: Eisenärzt , Vogling and Hammer , and parts of Hochberg and Haslach were created. Their coats of arms are shown below; however, the coats of arms of Vogling and Hochberg are not official coats of arms, and the communities were never given a coat of arms before they were dissolved.

geography

Geographical location

Siegsdorf is the seat of a political community and a Roman Catholic parish (earlier pilgrimage to the inclined head ). The next larger city is Salzburg , approx. 25 km to the east. Near Siegsdorf, the ' Red ' and ' White ' arms unite to form the Traun , which flows further over Traunstein and Altenmarkt and flows into the Alz . In the south are the foothills of the pre-Alps - here the Hochfelln . The highest point of the municipality is the Zinnkopf at 1227 m.

Main places

  • Siegsdorf (largest town and today's administrative seat of the municipality of Siegsdorf)
  • Eisenärzt (second largest town and former administrative seat of the Eisenärzt municipality)
  • Hammer (third largest town and former administrative seat of the municipality of Hammer)
  • Vogling (fourth largest town and former administrative seat of the municipality of Vogling)

history

Siegsdorf around 1900

Until the 19th century

Siegsdorf is first mentioned in writing around 1120. In the Middle Ages, iron ore mining played an important role , especially in today's districts of Eisenärzt and Hammer. A Salzsäumerweg ran through the municipality from Reichenhall to Traunstein , which was only expanded to become a salt road around 1590. Since 1618 the brine pipeline led from Reichenhall to Traunstein and from 1809 to Rosenheim along the Roten Traun via Hammer (Brunnhaus) and Siegsdorf (Brunnhaus). The late-Gothic parish church "Maria Conception" was redesigned in Baroque style in 1779 and provided with a large ceiling painting by the Trostberg painter Franz Soll. In 1896 Siegsdorf is connected to the railway.

20th century

In 1936 the first section of the motorway stretched from Munich to Siegsdorf.

On April 1, 1934, the municipality name Obersiegsdorf was officially changed to Siegsdorf at the same time as Untersiegsdorf was incorporated .

Siegsdorf mammoth

On October 11, 1975, the then 16-year-old student Bernard Raymond von Bredow discovered and hid one of the largest mammoth skeletons in the world in a stream bed near Siegsdorf (in the Höpfling district) . Siegsdorf hit the headlines in 1985 when Bredow published his mammoth find with the filmmaker Ulli Weißbach. The find was the reason to build the Mammutheum in Siegsdorf in 1991 and the Southeast Bavarian Natural History and Mammoth Museum in 1995 .

Incorporations

On April 1, 1934, the previous community of Untersiegsdorf was attached and the previous name of the community Obersiegsdorf was changed to Siegsdorf . On January 1, 1972, the previously independent community of Eisenärzt was incorporated. On July 1, 1972, Vogling and the southern part of the dissolved community of Hochberg were added. On May 1, 1978, the municipal area reform came to an end with the voluntary joining of the municipality of Hammer and the southern part of the municipality of Haslach.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 7,277 to 8,355 by 1,078 inhabitants or 14.8%.

Interesting facts about districts

Ahead

Ahead is a holiday complex that was built in the early 1970s. The “bird house” architecture of many buildings is typical, most of which were built on a south-facing slope.

The holiday park area itself consists of three parts, namely Feichten, Mosen and the actual Vorauf. The holiday park has facilities that are typical for holidaymakers, such as a mini golf course, a dining restaurant, a small indoor swimming pool and a sauna. The latter is also used by residents of the region, especially in winter. There is also a stud where horses can be rented. The old riding stables collapsed under the weight of snow on the same day as the ice rink in Bad Reichenhall, 30 km away .

Only 200 people live in the Vorauf area, but there are up to 500 holiday homes of various sizes. The house type (e.g. "Type Salzburg") is always named after a city. After the decline in mass tourism in the region, however, there has been an increase in property and house sales in recent years, which means that there is no longer the same range of supplies as 20 years ago. For example, the village shop that provided food to guests for over 30 years no longer exists. Instead, you have to go to Wernleiten, Siegsdorf, Traunstein or Neukirchen a. Teisenberg to be driven to grocery shopping. In addition, the holiday park is suffering from the demographic development because the first generation of holiday park owners is sometimes no longer alive and the following generations often have to sell the houses. This harbors a risk because real estate speculators and various holiday home providers are fighting for the houses that are becoming vacant or vacant, both for buyers and tenants.

The unresolved living situation is also problematic for the holiday park. Some people live in the holiday park for a long time and, as “long-time residents”, are officially residents of the holiday park and thus of the community. Newly arrived guests or holiday guests, on the other hand, are only allowed to use the apartments for holiday purposes, but not as permanent living quarters.

The holiday park is mostly used by guests from the (Upper) Bavarian area, as many of the homeowners come from this area and rent them out to friends, relatives or tourists. Guests from home and abroad also come.
