Alexander Duncan (politician)

Alexander Duncan (born 1788 in Madison , Morris County , New Jersey , † March 23, 1853 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . From 1837 to 1841 and 1843 to 1845 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the first  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

Life

Alexander Duncan was born in New Jersey. He studied medicine and then worked as a doctor. After moving to Ohio and settling in Cincinnati, he served in the Ohio House of Representatives in 1828, 1829, 1831, and 1832 . Immediately afterwards he was a member of the State Senate until 1834 .

As a Democrat, he was from 1837 to 1841 and from 1843 to 1845 representative of the 1st District of Ohio in the US House of Representatives. In 1844 he did not stand for re-election. He went back to Cincinnati and worked as a doctor again until his death.

Duncan died in Cincinnati in 1853 and was buried in Laurel Cemetery.
