William Howard "Bill" Harsha (born January 1, 1921 in Portsmouth , Ohio ; †  October 11, 2010 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1981 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bill Harsha attended Portsmouth High School until 1939 and then Kenyon College . From 1942 to 1944 he served in the Marine Corps during World War II . After studying law at Western Reserve University and being admitted to the bar in 1947, he began working in this profession in Portsmouth. Between 1947 and 1951 he was one of the legal representatives of this city; from 1951 to 1955 he served as a prosecutor in Scioto County . Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1960 congressional election , Harsha was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the sixth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Ward Miller on January 3, 1961 . After nine re-elections, he was able to complete ten legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1981 . During this time, the Vietnam War , the Watergate affair and the end of the civil rights movement took place . In 1980 he renounced another candidacy.

Between 1981 and 1986 Bill Harsha was a consultant in the federal capital Washington. He died on October 11, 2010 in his hometown of Portsmouth, where he was also buried.
