Charles J. Carney

Charles Joseph Carney (born  April 17, 1913 in Youngstown , Ohio , †  October 7, 1987 there ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . Of 30 November 1970 to 3 January 1979, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 19th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Carney attended schools in his hometown and in Campbell . Later he attended Youngstown State University and Cleveland State University to Jura to study. From 1950 to 1970 he was a member of the State Senate , from 1969 to 1970 he was a minority leader (minority leader) in the Senate. During his time in the Senate, he made various contacts with trade unions. From 1950 to 1968 he was a union secretary at United Steelworkers .

In a special election in 1970, Carney was elected to the 19th constituency of Ohio as a member of the House of Representatives. The special election was necessary because Michael J. Kirwan had died in office. Carney was able to defend his seat in the four subsequent elections. In 1978 he ran unsuccessfully against Lyle Williams .

Carney died in 1987 in the city of his birth. He was buried there on the Calvary Cemetry .
