Frank Hunt Hurd (born December 25, 1840 in Mount Vernon , Ohio , †  July 10, 1896 in Toledo , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1885 he represented the state of Ohio three times in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Frank Hurd attended Kenyon College in Gambier until 1858 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1861, he began to work in this profession. In 1863 he became a district attorney in Knox County . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1866 he was a member of the Ohio Senate ; in 1868 he was entrusted with the revision of the penal laws of this state. From 1869 he lived in the city of Toledo, whose legal representative he was between 1871 and 1873. In 1872 he ran for the US House of Representatives without success.

In the congressional elections of 1874 , Hurd was then elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Republican Isaac R. Sherwood on March 4, 1875 . Since he was not confirmed in 1876, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1877 . In 1878 he was re-elected to the House of Representatives in the seventh district of his state as the successor to Henry L. Dickey , where he was able to complete a further legislative term until March 3, 1881. In 1880 he was not re-elected again. Two years later, Frank Hurd succeeded John B. Rice in the tenth district of Ohio, re-entry into Congress, where he could spend a final term between March 4, 1883 and March 3, 1885. In 1884 he also missed re-election this time. However, Hurd vetoed the election result without success. In 1886 he applied for the last time and unsuccessfully to return to Congress. Thus he ran for election between 1872 and 1886 with varying success and in different constituencies in all congressional elections.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Frank Hurd practiced as a lawyer again. He died in Toledo on July 10, 1896 and was buried in his native Mount Vernon.
