Andrew W. Loomis

Andrew Williams Loomis (born June 27, 1797 in Lebanon , New London County , Connecticut , †  August 24, 1873 in Cumberland , Maryland ) was an American politician of the Whig Party . In 1837 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 17th  congressional district of the state of Ohio .

biography

Andrew Loomis was born in Lebanon. He studied law at Union College , where he graduated in 1819. He was admitted to the bar and moved to Canton , where he became a lawyer. He later moved to Lisbon .

In the 1836 congressional elections , Loomis was elected to the 17th congressional district in the US House of Representatives. He sat there from March 4, 1837 to October 20, 1837 when he resigned. In 1839 he moved to Pittsburgh to continue practicing law. In 1868 he moved again, this time to Cleveland . He died in Cumberland in 1873 on a trip through the USA; He was buried in the Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
