Percy W. Griffiths

Percy Wilfred Griffiths (born March 30, 1893 in Taylor , Lackawanna County , Pennsylvania , † June 12, 1983 in Clearwater , Florida ) was an American politician .

Griffiths served in the United States Navy from 1910 to 1913 and again during World War I from 1917 to 1919 . He then attended Pennsylvania State College until 1921 and studied at Columbia University in New York City . In 1930 he completed his studies there. In 1922 he worked as a car dealer in Marietta , Ohio and was a football coach at various colleges from 1927 to 1936. In 1938 and 1939 he held the office of mayor of the city of Marietta.

Griffiths was elected as a Republican to Congress , where he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1943 to January 3, 1949 . In the 1948 elections he was unable to defend his mandate. Griffiths was now active again as an automobile dealer and worked in this industry until his retirement in June 1961.
