Rodolphus Dickinson (born December 28, 1797 in Hatfield , Hampshire County , Massachusetts , †  March 20, 1849 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rodolphus Dickinson attended the public schools in his home country and between 1818 and 1821 Williams College in Williamstown . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Tiffin (Ohio) in this profession. In 1824 he became a Seneca County attorney . In 1826 and 1827 he held the same office in Williams County and Sandusky County . From 1826 he lived in Lower Sandusky . Between 1836 and 1845 he was a member of the Ohio State Board of Public Works . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1846 Dickinson was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington in the sixth constituency of Ohio, where he succeeded Henry St. John on March 4, 1847 . After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his death on March 20, 1849 . This time was marked by the events of the Mexican-American War . His son Edward (1829-1891) was also a member of Congress.
