Seward H. Williams

Seward Henry Williams (born November 7, 1870 in Amsterdam , New York , †  September 2, 1922 in Lorain , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1917 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Seward Williams attended the public schools in his home country as well as the Amsterdam Academy . He then graduated from Williams College in Williamstown ( Massachusetts ) and Princeton College . After studying law at Washington and Lee University in Lexington ( Virginia ) and being admitted to the bar in 1895, he began to work in this profession. Between 1901 and 1904 he was the legal representative for the city of Lorain. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . From 1910 to 1913 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives .

In the 1914 congressional election , Williams was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th  constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded the now retired Democrat William Graves Sharp on March 4, 1915 . Since he was not confirmed in 1916, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1917 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Williams practiced law again. He died on September 2, 1922 in Lorain, where he was also buried. He had two children with his wife Sarah.
